How long should you Grill salmon on a cedar plank?
- Once the grill has heated, place the cedar plank in the middle of the grill and close the lid. Cook for 12-15 minutes. It’s better to slightly under cook the salmon than overcook, as it will continue cooking once removed from the grill. You can add a little more glaze to the salmon halfway through the cooking process.
Can you use a cedar plank in the oven?

- Soak cedar plank in salted water for 2 hours, then drain. Remove skin from salmon fillet.
- Set grill for indirect grilling and heat to medium-high. Place the cedar plank in the center of the hot grate, away from the heat.
- Cook’s Note: A direct method to grill the salmon may be used. Soak the cedar plank well.
Why is salmon cooked on a cedar plank?
As the fish cooks and the plank heats up, this moisture rises out of the plank and pulls the characteristic flavors of Cedar with it. This essentially infuses the salmon with a fresh wood flavor and allows the fish to gently steam as the plank acts as a barrier between it and the heat source.
